Emily Works With:

Welcome! As your therapist, I am committed to cultivating a safe space by welcoming all identities you hold. I believe that you already have the innate wisdom you need to heal; I am just here to guide you on your journey.

  • The therapy room with me can be a political space to explore and honor every authentic part of yourself and your lived experiences. My approach has been described as direct, action-oriented, and warm. I am known to meet clients exactly where they are at without judgment. My framework is decolonial with an understanding that systems of oppression are at the root of our collective traumas, and I always consider how these systems have contributed to your own trauma. I believe that none of us are free until we are all free—Indigenous sovereignty, Black liberation, and abolition as dismantling all carceral and oppressive systems that are globally intertwined are core values of mine. Choosing to heal and grow is a radical act, and I believe that our collective healing is possible with collective liberation!

My niche as a trauma therapist is working with adults who experienced chronic childhood trauma (this is often diagnosed as C-PTSD). This includes child abuse and neglect, attachment trauma, dysfunctional families, and other Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). I utilize a bottom-up approach to therapy to address your trauma, meaning that I start with processing at the base of your brain, which is responsible for your automatic responses and memories, to promote embodied healing. I like to combine talk therapy with experiential and somatic modalities, such as IFS, EMDR, and Polyvagal Theory.

As a relational therapist, I believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the strongest tool that can be utilized in therapy. When you’ve experienced trauma, you may find it difficult to connect with others, even your loved ones. You may feel disconnected from the world and yourself. Although we exist in an individualistic society that promotes independence and self-reliance, we are wired to connect with others. We heal in community. As your therapist, I use curiosity, appropriate self-disclosure, empathy and humor to develop a safe therapeutic relationship with you so that you may take the skills we use in therapy to your relationships outside of therapy.

    • Women/non-men of color: Maybe you’ve been described as “extremely self-aware” and you’ve always been the strong one. Yet, you still struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, overachievement, interpersonal relationships, shame, low self-worth, and dissociation. Often at the root of these issues are dysfunctional families, intergenerational trauma, and surviving oppressive systems as a marginalized person.

    • Young adults aged 18-25: You might be exploring your intersecting identities, old and new relationships, and the ways in which you want to envision your life. I consider emerging adulthood to be one of the most challenging eras of life to navigate, especially when you are faced with trauma and wounds from your childhood.

    • Other passion populations include 2SLGBTQ+ folks, healers, and organizers/activists.

If any of this resonates with you, we might be a great fit for each other!

  • I recognize that shared identit(ies) might be an important factor in choosing a therapist. I am a gender non-conforming, white Latine of the Honduran diaspora who has lived with chronic illness. I am an activist and take particular interest in abolition and immigration/migration justice.

I became a therapist because I find so much meaning in human connection and the creative ways we heal ourselves and our communities. I know from personal experience how life changing embodied healing can be. Facilitating and witnessing this transformation in others is incredibly rewarding.

I’ve lived in Austin for the past decade enjoying the hill country and large bodies of water. Outside of the therapy room, you might find me gabbing with my friends, thrifting, politically organizing with other healers, reading novels, practicing tarot, or watching horror movies with my partner and our cats!
